Here’s a simple pattern for creating granny squares with circles in them, hence, Granny square Circles! These squares are great for sofa blankets! You can make them in a solid colour or change colour each round.

Use whichever starting stitch method you like best.
US Terms
Key
Ch = chain
Ss = slip stitch
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet
Rnd = round
Rnd 1: Make a double magic circle. *1dc, ch1. Repeat from * 11 more times. Pull circle tight. Ss to the first ch1 space. Rnd 1 = 12 stitches.
Rnd 2: In rnd 2 work into the ch1 spaces from rnd 1. Into the first ch1 space, *2dc, ch1. Repeat from * 11 more times. Ss to ch1 space. Rnd 2 = 24 stitches.
Rnd 3: In rnd 3 work into the ch1 spaces from rnd 2. Into the first ch1 space, 3dc, ch1. Repeat from * 11 more times. Ss to ch1 space. Rnd 3 = 36 stitches.
Rnd 4: In rnd 4 you will turn your circle into a square. All stitches are worked into the ch spaces from rnd 3. *In the next ch space 2hdc sc ch1, next ch space sc 2hdc, next ch space 2dc tr ch1 tr 2dc. Repeat from * 3 more times. Ss, cut and tie yarn. Rnd 4 = 48 stitches.
