Cute Granny Square Tutorial

I absolutely adore this little square and I think it would be perfect for a one square repeat baby blanket, especially if using the slip stitch and chain method to join the squares. I hope you like it as much as I do and enjoy crocheting it. 

Materials

DK yarn

4mm hook

scissors

Written Pattern (US Terms)

For this pattern you will need to know how to make cluster stitches and popcorn stitches, each cluster is made with two US double crochets, whereas each popcorn stitch is made with four US double crochets. If you are new to either of these stitches please watch the demonstration in the video linked below.

Key

ss = slip stitch

ch = chain

sp = space

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

dc = double crochet

rnd = round

Rnd 1: To start, create a double magic circle. Into the double magic circle crochet 12 dc. Slip stitch to first stitch to join. chain 1. (12 stitches)

Rnd 2: Crochet a cluster stitch and ch 1  in each dc from round 1. Repeat around all stitches. Slip stitch to first cluster to join and then slip stitch into the chain 2 space. Chain 1. (12 cluster stitches and 12 ch 1 spaces)

Rnd 3: Using double crochets. make a 4 stitch popcorn stitch and ch 2 into each chain 1 space from round 2. Repeat all the way around, slip stich into the chain 2 space to join. Chain 1. (12 popcorn stitches and 12 chain 2 spaces)

Rnd 4: In the last round we turn our little circle into a square. all stitches are worked into the chain 2 spaces from round 3. Into the first ch2 sp crochet *sc, 2hdc. Into the next ch2 sp we will make the corner, crochet 2dc, tr, ch1, tr, 2dc. Into the next ch2 sp crochet 2hdc, sc. Repeat from the * 3 more times. Slip stich to the first stitch to join. (48 stitches and 4 ch1 corner spaces)
